Overview
Whitebox is an ecommerce enablement platform that helps brands and manufacturers increase sales through marketplace management, fulfillment, and proprietary technology. As Design Director, I led the evolution of the company's digital brand experience, redesigning the website and creating a scalable visual system that clearly communicated Whitebox's diverse service offerings while reinforcing its position as a technology-driven partner.
Process
I led the UX strategy, wireframing, visual design, and brand execution for the majority of the Whitebox website, collaborating closely with our development agency to create custom WordPress content blocks that gave the marketing team greater flexibility while maintaining brand consistency. Every page incorporated custom illustrations and graphics designed to simplify complex ecommerce services and create a cohesive user experience. To help users quickly understand the platform, I developed a visual architecture that assigned a distinct color identity to each business pillar. Marketplace was represented in yellow to convey accessibility and human connection, Fulfillment used light blue to reinforce trust and reliability, and Technology was branded in green to represent innovation, performance, and accessibility. This system established a clear visual language that extended across the website, sales materials, marketing campaigns, and product communications.
Challenges
One of the primary challenges was communicating three highly interconnected business units without overwhelming users. Whitebox offered marketplace management, fulfillment operations, and proprietary technology solutions, each with its own value proposition, but together they formed a single integrated platform. Another challenge was balancing technical depth with usability. The website needed to explain sophisticated ecommerce capabilities while remaining approachable for prospective customers evaluating Whitebox for the first time. The experience also needed to scale as the company introduced new products, services, and content over time.
Result
The redesigned website created a more intuitive and engaging user experience that clearly communicated Whitebox's integrated platform and strengthened the company's digital brand presence. The modular design system and custom WordPress components made it easier for internal teams to build new pages while maintaining visual consistency across the site. By creating distinct identities for Marketplace, Fulfillment, and Technology within a unified brand system, the website helped users better understand Whitebox's end-to-end capabilities while establishing a scalable foundation for future growth. The project reinforced Whitebox's position as both a technology company and a trusted ecommerce partner for leading consumer brands.
