Doggietrek

Overview

Doggietrek is a mobile app concept designed to make finding trusted dog care simple, fast, and stress-free. The goal was to connect busy pet owners with reliable local dog walkers through an intuitive mobile experience that reduced the time and effort required to book care while helping professional dog walkers grow their businesses.

Process

I led the UX research, information architecture, wireframing, visual design, and user testing for the application. The project began with user interviews to better understand the challenges pet owners face when searching for dog walking and pet sitting services. Research revealed that trust, affordability, availability, and lengthy onboarding processes were the biggest barriers to adoption. Using these insights, I developed user personas, journey maps, user flows, wireframes, mood boards, and a component library before designing high-fidelity mobile screens. The onboarding experience was intentionally streamlined through simplified registration, intuitive navigation, and personalized recommendations based on each owner's preferences. Throughout the project, usability testing informed multiple design iterations that refined navigation, booking flows, messaging, and account management.

Challenges

The primary challenge was designing an experience that quickly established trust between pet owners and dog walkers. Because users were placing the care of their pets in someone else's hands, the interface needed to reduce anxiety while making it easy to evaluate caregivers, schedule services, and complete bookings with confidence. Another challenge was minimizing friction during onboarding. User research showed that busy pet owners were unlikely to complete long registration processes, so the experience needed to balance collecting essential information with getting users to value as quickly as possible. The interface also needed to support future scalability while following familiar mobile design patterns.

Result

The final design created a faster, more intuitive onboarding experience that reduced unnecessary steps and simplified the path to booking dog care. User testing validated improvements to the navigation and information architecture, leading to the addition of features such as Favorites, a dedicated booking experience, and an improved messaging interface while eliminating unnecessary navigation patterns. By reducing the number of screens and focusing on the tasks users cared about most, the app created a more efficient experience for both pet owners and dog walkers. The project reinforced the value of user-centered design, demonstrating how research, rapid iteration, and continuous testing can transform a complex service into an experience that feels simple, trustworthy, and enjoyable.

"The best user experiences begin with empathy. By understanding the concerns of pet owners and designing around their needs, Doggietrek transformed dog walking from a stressful task into a seamless everyday experience."
