Overview
Whitebox's customer dashboard was the central hub for brands to manage sales, fulfillment, inventory, advertising, finance, and reporting from a single platform. As the product expanded, the navigation became increasingly difficult to scale, making it harder for users to quickly locate the tools and data they needed. The dashboard refresh focused on simplifying navigation, improving information architecture, and creating a more intuitive user experience that reflected Whitebox's evolution into a comprehensive ecommerce platform.
Process
As Design Director, I helped the product team lead a visual redesign of the dashboard navigation, beginning with an audit of the existing experience and identifying opportunities to reduce complexity. I reorganized the navigation into clear product categories including Sales, Fulfillment, Warehouse, Ads, Finance, and Profile, while introducing a more consistent hierarchy for secondary navigation such as Orders, Customers, Inventory, Reports, Billing, and Settings. The redesign explored multiple navigation concepts and dashboard layouts before arriving at a scalable solution that prioritized the most frequently used workflows. The refreshed interface incorporated clearer visual hierarchy, improved spacing, simplified iconography, and a cleaner layout that made it easier for customers to move between different areas of the platform while maintaining consistency across the product experience.d
Challenges
The primary challenge was designing a navigation system that could support an expanding suite of ecommerce tools without overwhelming users. Whitebox combined marketplace management, fulfillment operations, warehouse management, advertising, and financial reporting within a single platform, requiring an information architecture that balanced breadth of functionality with ease of use. Another challenge was creating a system that could continue to grow alongside the product. The navigation needed to accommodate future features and business lines while remaining familiar to existing customers and reducing the cognitive effort required to complete everyday tasks.
Result
The dashboard refresh established a cleaner, more scalable navigation system that improved usability across the platform and created a stronger foundation for future product growth. By reorganizing content into logical categories and simplifying navigation patterns, users could more easily locate key workflows and move between different areas of the platform with greater confidence. The refreshed experience also aligned the product more closely with the Whitebox brand by creating a modern, intuitive interface that reflected the company's commitment to innovation, usability, and customer success. The redesign provided a flexible framework that allowed the product team to continue expanding the platform while maintaining a consistent user experience.
